La Sylphide by the Singapore Dance Theatre was one of the shortest ballets I've ever watched in my entire life! Act 1 was only 30 minutes! Though it only lasted for around 1.5 hours, I have to admit, the set was one of the best i've ever seen from SDT. I was greatly surprised at how different the sets for Nutcracker and La Sylphide were in terms of quality. Nutcracker was so plain and budgeted while La Sylphide was the total opposite. Loved the opening scene with the wooden staircase, windows and fireplace..Plus, I was really intrigued at how they managed to make the outside of the room look so windy with the ferns outside the window swaying in the wind..The forest scene was just as fascinating. I really felt as if I was in a real life forest! Wonder how they did it...
The dancing was so-so. I wouldn't say it was exceptional because I've seen better dancing from ABT or Royal Ballet. It was really a pity that Natalie Clarke couldn't secure her double pirouette at the end of her solo(or pas de duex). i've only got one request: MORE DANCING PLEASE!
The music was so familiar man..all of us were gesturing the different barre exercises during the ballet because Grade 7 syllabus music's from La Sylphide. It amazes me that we can still remember the dances.
By the way, I went to watch it with Da Jie(Abigail), Nicole, JieLin, Jeanette & Dina.
Anyway, after the whole thing, we had Subway at Raffles City, & i can make one conclusion from the dinner we had: i'm a super duper messy eater. HAHA.
ok thats all for now..gonna go rub deep heat on my muscles...deep heat muscle rub's my new best friend.
dance those blues away...
